Scaling Up Big Ideas

Since 2006, over 200 student teams have received recognition for their “Big Idea” in UC Berkeley’s Bears Breaking Boundaries “Big Ideas” contest. For this current 2011-2012 contest, prizes are available for student-led initiatives that have previously won a Big Ideas contest, who have since generated excellent results and are in need of additional support to make even greater progress.

Entrants should describe:

  • Original title of contest entry, short summary of original proposal, and year of winning submission.
  • Progress to date.
  • Project plans, goals and resource needs going forward.

Competition Rules

The Scaling Up Big Ideas Competition is open to all graduate and undergraduate students at UC Berkeley, UC Davis and UC San Francisco. Multidisciplinary teams are strongly encouraged.

For additional information about general contest rules, timing and how to apply, please refer to the Contest Application Guidelines

Prizes will be awarded only if there are high-quality submissions and are expected to be used to support the proposed activities (e.g., research, travel, workshops, project expenses). Decisions of the judges are final and not subject to appeal.
