We're all frustrated by the idea that as the health of the planet spirals downward, we have to sit and wait to see if business and government will do anything about it. And will they will do enough and fast enough?

Well, what if we didn't have to wait? And further what if we believe this: individuals matter. Since the problem afflicts us all--and all of our children--the conclusion is obvious. Let's lead this one ourselves and let's be the change we want to see in the World.

So here's our idea:
Use the power of the internet to reach out to individuals in every country and to rally them around the idea of embracing the changes needed to heal the planet. Together let's build a ribbon on the internet that's long enough to wrap around the entire Earth—a gesture that’s big enough, and crazy enough, that there’s a chance it just might work. We each create a panel 6" (15 cm.) square made of a photo or drawing of what we love most about this planet, a statement of why we love it, and at least one thing we can to do to help the planet's health. You can do it in as little as three minutes and it's fun and easy. It’s a nonpartisan, international effort, we are just citizens of the World.

Our manifesto:
Individuals, waiting for no one else's leadership, standing up for what they believe, can change the World. Hence it's called Planetfesto. Author Wendell Berry said "What we do not love, we will not save."

Why participate?
Well, we'll literally never make it without you. With each panel 6"/15cm, it will take 262, 965,120 of us. A totally insane number (but that’s what we like about it.)

But think about the impact if we do all do it. People of every age, every nation, every ideology.

• It will change the business and political landscape. Movements matter. Numbers matter. And your joining will inspire others to add to the ribbon.
• We can help educate each other on ways to help (it turns out each of us can do a lot).
• Small, individual actions add up to huge benefits for the Earth. A fractal of kindness.

One result:
Right now huge companies around the world are planning to invest hundreds of billions of dollars on products with no thought to how they affect the environment. They're betting no one will care. Too many politicians are thinking about what's the least change they can get away with. Let's send them a message.

Coming soon:
We are planning a revision of it soon which will include translations to many languages, music, more ribbon functionality, the ability to search by group, capture pictures, etc.

Our promises:
We will never ask you for money, share your name with other groups, try to sell you anything. This is a grassroots movement with no other agenda than to improve the quality of our life on Earth. But we do ask you for one more thing: your help in getting others involved. Everywhere. Soccer teams, bike clubs, places of worship, businesses, schools, scouting troops...

Who we are:
We are just a husband and wife, and some friends, in the Western U.S. who think we have an idea. We’re convinced about that enough that we’ve spent the last 10 months putting it together. But without your help, it’ll turn out we really don’t have an idea at all.

Project mission:

1.To boost awareness of the citizens of the world to come together as a collective intelligence.

2. Think globally, act locally. Teach through example rather than words. Pragmatic ideas (see "Things you can do ")

Potential impact:

A. Generate critical thinking and awareness all over the planet.

B. Awake hearts and consciences. (Not to save the Earth but to save us. The Earth will be here for at least another 3.5 billion years with or without humans. We are saving the magnificent conditions that generate this biodiversity).

C. Earthlings will be able to answer by themselves: TO BE more or to have more? That's the question.

D. Contribute to the fractal of compassion needed for the survival of our species. (Boost the Kindness Revolution. If you want to be a rebel be kind. Human-kind be both.)

E. Promote diversity.(Be a catalyst who boosts ALL perspectives. Thereafter, you will be closer to the truth.)

F. Expand the "Berkeley bubble".(The epicenter of the New Renaissance of Humanity).

G. Create an artistic-scientific-rational and humanitarian society.

H. Understand that the Earth is but ONE country and the humankind its citizens.

We just launched the site, but it will require lots of more work to do (i.e. database handling, search engine, translation to all languages, music, Internet marketing, etc). We need more citizens of the World involved in this project.

She is the only planet we have. Our only home, our only land and sea and sky, the only Earth which can hold us. We profess to adore her beauty and her grace, and yet we take her for granted. We take from her repeatedly, and seldom, if ever, give. We ignore her fears and shudders, her tremors of change, her obvious and unending pleas for help. We’re still here, aren’t we, we say, as if being alive were enough to prove our faithfulness. So if we love her, let’s not just speak the words, let’s take a vow. And put that vow up for all to see. Right now. Right here.

Starting now, let’s be monogamous and grateful at the same time. Starting now let’s prove she’s the only one for us, the only one we’ll ever need, till death do us part, because imagine this, she is. Let us not abuse her or misuse her, let’s stop being faithless and unkind, let’s start showering her with promises and praise and prove that praise catches on.

Starting here let’s buy her flowers and write her love notes, let’s be faithful and righteously, ridiculously true. Let’s put her on a pedestal and tie a ribbon around the world one person, one family, one couple, one perfect piece at a time.
