EcoDesign Solutions: "Sustainable Living Center": Global Assessment

Project Leader: President: Kyle Rainier Nicholas

Kyle Nicholas: President; Conservation and Resource Studies: Environmental Business,Philosophy, Religious Studies. University of California, Berkeley.

There are many paths in the mountains of Washington State, one of
which leads to a mystical display of cascading waterfalls. It was
gazing upon this glorious site that I first realized my true calling
in life. Hiking along the dangerous trail, I didn't see any trouble
in throwing my empty water bottle over the cliff. To my surprise, the
Scout leader of this voyage actually risked his life climbing down a
treacherous cliff in order to retrieve my trash. Returning scratched
and breathless, he spoke a few words to me that I will never forget,
"It's people like you that are going to eventually destroy the beauty
of this world." His passion was the foundation for inspiring me to
pursue a career in what is now one of my three declared majors at UC
Berkeley, "Conservation and Resources Studies: Environmental
Business."
In order to realize my dream of pursuing a noble career, studying the
environment, I've understood the importance of having a strong
educational background. Not only has UC Berkeley given me a well
rounded education, but I have been endowed with a thirst for knowledge
that can't be quenched! I have overcome many obstacles during my
life, and now feel that I possess the skills, discipline, and
confidence to accomplish both the promoting and developing of green
commercial and residential properties or what I like to refer to as,
"Sustainable Living Centers." In addition to fueling my motivation in
the pursuit of my educational dream, this college has also encouraged
me to further my educational goal by obtaining a Masters degree in
both environmental business and environmental law. Also, I plan to
obtain a Doctorate degree emphasizing the social and political aspects
of the environmental progression. Along with my hands-on experience in
dealing with environmental issues, I feel that my educational goals
will give me a comprehensive insight to complexity of transitioning society to
a more sustainable future.
Anticipating the need to take the extra initiative in the pursuit of
my major, I also decided to broaden my education outside the
classroom. I have been working on a paid internship at a local
green-construction company this past year, and it has really opened my
eyes to the wonders of alternative energy /materials. For example, I
received hands on experience as to the understanding of innovative
ideas and actually utilizing them into practice. Green Development
utilizing sustainable technology became really interesting to me, and
I began to foresee huge potential in the future of this ever-evolving
industry. Another great experience I recently had was meeting with
the head engineer of a fast-growing company, whose core business is
alternative energy installation on a grander scale. After a fascinating
conversation, the engineer left me with his card, the chance of an
employment, and these words, "Kyle, stick with it, this field is wide
open, and it's only getting better." That's exactly what I intend to
do.
