Moving Stills: Video Production for Social Justice: UC Berkeley

A new student organization is forming on campus that will bring together FILM and SOCIAL JUSTICE.

MOVING STILLS will be the only club of its kind on the Berkeley campus to use video production to promote social justice. We believe that film has the power to touch, to draw attention to social issues, and to highlight possible solutions. We have therefore decided to found a student group that will give members the opportunity to create videos for the purpose of producing change.

The purpose of MOVING STILLS is to produce short videos that will raise awareness, promote discussion, and encourage action. Video topics can be locally based or more global in scope, and can range from wage inequalities and global warming to homelessness in Berkeley and discrimination in the world. In groups or solo, members of the club will select their own topics and will be their own directors, scriptwriters, camera operators, and video editors. The rest of the club will provide support and technical training. It is our hope to eventually submit some of the videos to film festivals around the world.

MOVING STILLS is still in its founding stage. We are in need of funding in order to acquire the necessary video equipment, including reliable video cameras, computers, mics, and tripods.

Thank you for your interest. Please email movingstills.cal@gmail.com if you have any questions. Spread the word! Let us make the world a better place through video production.
