Justin Wiley - Extensive experience with agro-ecology, socio-environmental studies, gardening and farming. I developed an agro-ecological portion of the Chadwick garden at UCSC in 2005 as part of a research team through the Education for Sustainable Living Program. The following year I received the Strauss Foundation grant to establish the Renaissance High School (RHS) Gardening for Health and Social Change project. I taught a class of 16 students at the University of California, Santa Cruz, in which we designed and developed a nutrition education program and agro-ecological acre of land in the backyard of RHS. This nutrition education program and farm provide RHS students with an outdoor multidisciplinary learning facility. We have an acre of land established and we are setting up a forty tree citrus and apple orchard next week. I have also been mentored through classes and independent research by prominent ecologists such as Miguel Altieri, Steve Gliessman and Jan Washburn. I have taken numerous ecology, environmental science, and hands on gardening classes through the department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management at UCB as well as the Environmental Studies department at UCSC.
