Team Bios:

Megan Finn is a Ph.D. candidate at UC Berkeley's School of Information. Her research interest can broadly be described as the study of information systems for disaster response. Her dissertation work is on the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake and the “information environments” of early internet users and the Spanish-speaking community. Finn graduated from the University of Michigan in 2000 with a B.S. with Honors in Computer Science. She worked as an engineer for a variety of companies in the high tech industry, including Intel and Hewlett-Packard. Finn received her Master’s in Information Management and Systems from U.C. Berkeley in 2005 where her thesis was on how young people use technology to support their social networks.

Elisa Oreglia is a Master’s candidate at UC Berkeley’s School of Information. She is interested in information and communication technologies and development in Asia, with a special focus on China, where she has lived for several years. She holds a B.A. summa cum laude in International Relations from the University of Trieste, Italy, and was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of San Francisco, where she earned an M.A. in Asian Studies. She has worked as a web producer and consultant for several non-profit organizations in Europe and in China.

Nick Rabinowitz is a first-year Master's student at UC Berkeley’s School of Information, where his focus in graduate study is on internet and communications systems to support humanitarian organizations in their core work. He received a B.A. summa cum laude from Amherst College in 2000 with a major in English; his senior thesis, a translation and discussion of a Senegalese oral epic, earned awards in English and Black Studies. He has worked for over 10 years as a web developer and editor, most recently as Internet Manager for Oxfam America and Web Editor for CARE USA.

John Ward is a Master's candidate at UC Berkeley’s School of Information. His primary academic interest is the great challenge of information exchange, both within and between organizations. Prior to starting at the School of Information, John worked for many years as a programmer and system administrator on the UC Berkeley campus. He also worked for several years as a music teacher. He received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Connecticut College in 1992.
