Green Bike Share Project

The Green Bike Share pilot project will establish an initial fleet of 20 bright green bicycles as a means to provide an affordable alternative form of transportation to students, faculty and staff of UC Berkeley. The pilot project, targeted to commence in August, 2008 will be open to the first 100 UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff to sign up for the program. All members can sign up on the Green Bike Share website (GreenBikeShare.org). It only costs $15 a semester to become a member of the Green Bike Share. This membership will allow you to checkout bikes for up to 24 hours at a time. The Green Bike Share tent will be located on lower Sproul, Monday -Friday between 11am-1pm for pick-up and drop-off. Arsenic-Free Water in Rural Asia

We aim to provide affordable access to clean water in rural communities with arsenic-contaminated primary water sources. Ultimately, we hope to improve the health and livelihood of millions worldwide that are currently exposed to arsenic-contamination. Learn more

Women's Health and Empowerment Center, Cerro Limon, Panama

The goal is to create a project that will be self-sustainable. The health and birthing building will be run by the traditional healers, who have shown great interest in this facility. The sewing and empowerment center will be run by the women who use it, with dress sales serving as a source of income for its maintenance, future purchases of fabric and expansion of the coop. The two buildings will be equipped with a shared cooking area and composting latrines. They will be built by locals, who have already expressed interest in volunteering their labor. Green Chemistry and Sustainable Design

To promote the advancement of green chemistry and sustainable design principles through the creation of a venue for the discussion and dissemination of information among students and faculty from diverse fields such as chemistry, engineering, toxicology, public health, public policy, business, and environmental science.
