Omidyar Network

http://www.omidyar.net/home/

Omidyar Network seeks out investments that are "of the people, by the people, for the people" so that every individual can discover their own power to make good things happen. The purposefully broad scope is somewhat narrowed through the common characteristics we look for in investments such as openness, transparency, collaboration, de-centralization, a level playing field, and potential self-sustainability. Since June 2004, we've funded many different focus areas: Microfinance, Bottom-up Media, Open Source, Intellectual Property, Voting, Software, and Transparency in Government. *How* we work is as important as the work itself. We employ collaborative and networked approaches because we believe there's truth in the adage "none of us is as smart as all of us". Our focus on an effective process vs. a specific desired outcome could be summed up as "try, learn, do."
